Using Essential Oils For Vertigo

Using essential oils for vertigo, also known as mycotoxic vertigo, is now a popular approach, since these oils can directly affect the central nervous system and alleviate both anxiety and spasms, as well as treat infections and muscle cramps. They are not addictive or toxic, making them a great choice for long-term use. They can be used with prescription drugs for pain relief, or independently if preferred.

Vertigo is an often misdiagnosed medical condition, so many people do not even know they have it! It's actually a symptom of a chemical imbalance within the body, usually caused by trauma to the head or neck such as a car accident or stroke. This imbalance then causes damage to the brain, which sends messages to the nerves not to move or work properly, which usually results in dizziness and lightheadedness. Dizziness does not necessarily mean vertigo, but there is often confusion between the two. Symptoms include: trouble concentrating, fatigue, short-term memory loss, unsteadiness, blurred vision, fainting, nausea, head trauma, sweating, and sometimes shock or lightheadedness. Other symptoms may occur in varying amounts depending on the severity of the trauma.

There are many essential oils that can be used for dizziness, and finding the right one for you is dependent upon your own symptoms. Most of the best essential oils for dizziness can be purchased from holistic medicine stores, drug stores, or through a reputable online vendor. However, you may need to do some research to determine which ones are best for your particular symptoms. Here are a few of the most effective oils for dizziness:

Lemon is probably one of the best essential oils for vertigo, since it has a very light citrus scent. Lemon helps to counteract nausea and acid reflux by providing relief with its citrus aroma. Lemon is also an anti-spasmodic, so it can be used to treat headaches and migraines as well. If you have been experiencing mild dizziness, try a nice Lemon essential oil blend, such as Lemon Thyme or Grapefruit Oil blended together in a base oil such as apricot kernel oil.

Bergamot is a potent ingredient for many diffusers. When using essential oils for dizziness, be sure to use them according to their recommended application. Bergamot should not be used undiluted, as this can result in a potent concentration of the oil that is not safe. Dilute oils with a carrier oil such as jojoba or coconut oil first. Then apply to the affected area using a diffuser. To reduce nausea and get immediate relief, inhale the oil in a steam vaporizer.

A recent study on essential oils for nausea found that lemon oil was the most effective in alleviating the symptoms of dizziness and nausea when it was combined with Eucalyptus oil, rosemary oil, clove oil, peppermint oil, lavender oil, lemon balm and ginger. A blend of these three essences worked the best in helping participants feel better within four hours. These same essential oils were found to be more effective when used in conjunction with vitamin C, St. John's Wort and valerian root. The study showed that using the three essences was twice as effective as a common dose of Zantac. No side effects were noted with either the Zantac or the combination remedies.

While there are many different causes of vertigo, nausea is believed to be one of the primary factors. Because peppermint essential oil has an antiseptic effect, it can help to reduce nausea and reduce the severity of this symptom. One particular study showed that the menthol essential oil helped to alleviate nausea by reducing the muscle spasm associated with the nausea. In addition, peppermint oil decreased the frequency of the symptoms as well.

Essential oils have shown tremendous promise in the treatment of nausea and other symptoms of vertigo. Using them topically on a daily basis is one of the best ways to treat the problem. Consider purchasing essential oils and carrier oils separately to ensure you are only buying pure, undiluted essential oils. When choosing carrier oils, make sure to choose ones that have been proven to be safe for treating nausea and vomiting. You can find complete details on using them topically at my site.
