Using Essential Oils For Sleep and Relaxation

In this article we will discuss how essential oils can help with sleep apnea and other sleeping disorders. In recent years science has made breakthroughs in the understanding of the brain and the effects it has on different organs, including the lungs and the rest of the body. There have been studies done showing that the pineal gland produces melatonin. Melatonin is a hormone produced by the pineal gland that is related to the sleep-wake patterns in our bodies. Geranium, or the flower of the geranium, is a lovely flower. It has been a popular choice of flower for those people who suffer from chronic headaches, migraines, insomnia, anxiety and other sleeping disorders. For the most part, it is not recommended for women who are pregnant or breast feeding because it can cause uterine contractions and sometimes cause miscarriage. Fortunately, there are essential oils available that can be used as a substitute for the geranium.

By using essential oils for calming effect you are able to get the same effect as a geranium by simply adding the flower to a bath. Essential oils are able to penetrate into the olfactory nerves to reach the brain. By using them for calming effect it is possible to reduce stress and sleep better. Because stress is often a contributing factor to sleeping disorders, it can often be solved by using essential oils.

Lavender is a popular choice for many people. The scent of the plant is very pleasant and makes it a great choice for baths and showers. The essential oils of the lavender plant contain numerous compounds that have an anti-inflammatory effect on the body. Some of the active botanical constituents of the lavender include vanillin, eugenol, citronella, geraniol, nathrin and methyl salicylate.

Lemon is another excellent choice for calming. Like lavender it also contains citronella, which serves as a scent deterrent. It is the citrus scent of lemon that gives it the calming effect. Other essential oils of lemon have similar calming effects on the olfactory nerves. If you are looking for an alternative scent to add to baths and showers, try using lemon as an alternative scent.

To get the same benefits as lavender it is recommended that you use grapefruit oil in your bath water. Grapefruit oil helps to eliminate bacteria and viruses that may be causing symptoms such as headaches and sore throats. Using essential oils may be a good alternative to using antibacterial cleansers if you want to maintain a healthy feeling without antibacterial cleansers.

Steam baths are another popular alternative to traditional bathing methods. Aromatherapy professionals believe that a person's ability to fall asleep depends a lot on the quality of the scents he or she breathes in when they are sleeping. One way to get better sleep at night is to create the right ambiance in your bedroom by using essential oils. In addition to adding essential oils to the bathwater, steam bath manufacturers have also created steam showers for home use. These shower heads provide the same relaxing benefits of a steam bath without the inconvenience of traveling to a steam bath facility.

Sleep is affected by our nervous system. Our brains send messages to the parts of our body through our nerves. One of those messages is the smell of a particular essential oil. Using essential oils may help to improve the state of relaxation in your body so that it can better respond to brain signals. Essential oils may even stimulate certain parts of the nervous system and increase the effectiveness of certain treatments.
