Essential Oils For Skin Health

The subject of essential oils for skin is vast and varied. A common thread that reoccurs in the literature focuses on the power that essential oils possess in healing the skin (both internally-out and externally-in). According to recent studies, all but one of the 98 essential oils accepted for internal use, are backed up for skin infections by antibacterial extracts. The study was conducted by the University of Illinois' College of Medicine, in conjunction with the National Institute of Health, using samples from patients with fungal skin infections. The result showed that the two oils, lavender and tea tree, were the most effective against staph and yeast infections.

The most effective combination for internal use is a carrier oil, also known as an "essential oil blend," comprised of one of the essential oils, along with a carrier oil, which allows the oil to penetrate deeper into the skin. Essential oils can be absorbed through the skins surface with greater ease than other substances, like creams or lotions. Therefore, they provide better coverage, and are more easily absorbed into the body.

One of the best known essential oils for the skin is lavender oil, which has been used for centuries for its healing and relaxing properties. Lavender oil can be purchased commercially, or you can grow your own. Take care to use organic lavender oil, and take care to avoid using distilled or deodorized lavender oil. Organic lavender oil has been shown to have anti-fungal properties, antiseptic properties, and antibacterial properties. It has also been used to help alleviate anxiety, and as a relaxation agent.

Eucalyptus oil is another popular essential oils that is excellent for reducing the appearance of cellulite in the body. It is made from the leaves, twigs, bark, and buds of eucalyptus tree. Because of its antibacterial, antiseptic, and moisturizing properties, this oil is a good choice for treating athlete's foot, cuts, and burns, while it helps keep colds and flu away.

If you have extremely dry skin, finding a recipe that is particularly helpful for you may be difficult. For people who have extremely dry skin, neem oils are particularly helpful. Neem is an effective remedy for the relief of inflammation, and has proven to be extremely helpful for athletes and bodybuilders alike. Even though it can take up to four weeks before noticeable results are felt, neem is well worth the wait, as it can be used to treat a variety of health issues, including cellulite.

Essential oils like oregano and rosemary are also effective anti-cellulite ingredients. Both of these essential oils are available in creams and gels that can be used as massage tools. By using essential oils like oregano and rosemary on a regular basis, it is possible to reduce the amount of water that is lost through perspiration, as well as reduce the appearance of cellulite on the thighs. These oils also work wonders when combined with certain recipes. For instance, by combining a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar with two tablespoons of honey, you can make a special body scrub that works wonders.

When making recipes that include essential oils for skin health, it is important to use the highest quality ingredients that are available. For example, myrrh is very high in concentration and should not be used in any skincare recipe that contains synthetic fragrances. Synthetic fragrances are common additives that are used to increase the pheromone concentration of a particular scent. Although myrrh produces a wonderful fragrance, it also produces a strong odor, which some people find very unpleasant. In other words, myrrh is a very powerful essential oil that should only be included in very pure recipes.

To make sure that you are using the highest quality of essential oils, it is wise to perform a patch test. A patch test will ensure that the oils are pure and that they do not contain any contaminants. If a recipe that you make calls for an essential oil that contains patchouli extract, for instance, and it also contains synthetic fragrance, then the essential oils are probably not pure enough to use on your body. To perform a patch test, simply put a small drop of the recipe on a small piece of cotton cloth. If a yellowish color appears on the cloth, this indicates that the oil may contain contaminants, but it is unlikely to be enough to cause damage to your skin.
