Essential Oils For Protection From the Elements

If you have ever read about the power of essential oils then you would know that these have healing powers that can soothe and protect your body. They are great stress busters and have rejuvenating properties that can help to improve your physical, mental and emotional health. In addition, they are a natural way to defend yourself from toxins as well as heal the skin. Essential oils for protection are also excellent for your sense of smell. Their fragrance is so strong that your home will smell like your favorite perfume even if you use it outside.

Lavender - One of the most popular oils used in perfumes and potpourri, Lavender has a long history of use in aromatherapy. It was often used as an ingredient in potions to help treat people with irritable bowel syndrome or cancer. Lavender has now been widely reputed as a potent healer and is used in many different forms of aromatherapy from being added as drops to bathwater to being used in your car for a head start on the road to recovery. Even in ancient times, lavender was widely used to scent temples and religious buildings.

To use lavender oil diffusers, place one into your bathroom before starting your shower or bath. Alternatively, place a few drops into your hand before applying on your skin. Sprinkle some baby powder over the area to act as a barrier between the diffuser and your skin. A great thing about using diffusers for this oil is that it will last for much longer than many other essential oils. You can enjoy a fresh burst of aroma every day for a month without having to worry about reapplying.

Peppermint - This is another favorite when it comes to spicing up your self-care practice. While peppermint does have cooling and soothing properties, it is also an anti-inflammatory agent. The use of peppermint oil in a diffuser will give you a fresh feeling that lasts all day. Leave the oil in your bathwater to do its work and then use your diffuser or your favorite essential oils in your bath.

Eucalyptus Essential Oil - This is an intense yet all-natural essential oil with tremendous healing abilities. When using this oil for a self-care practice, be careful about how you use it. As with most eucalyptus oils, eucalyptus can cause an allergy reaction if too much is ingested. Use a dime size dropper to dab a little on your palms and gently massaged into the top layer of skin. You can also add a drop to your bathwater for a better mood and to help your body with circulation.

Cedar Wood & Cedar Tea - These are two wonderful oils that help to alleviate the negative psychic energies that we are surrounded by. By taking advantage of the healing properties of cedar wood, tea leaves, and even the evergreen cedar tree, we can release negative energy that has been building up in our bodies for many years. These oils are especially effective against colds, headaches, sore muscles, insomnia, sinus problems, and more. There are specific blends for all different types of ailments. Try some on a buddy today to help alleviate a tension or headache.

Sun Exposure - Protect your skin from sun exposure with essential oils like tea tree and eucalyptus. These oils help you relax as well as protect the health of your skin. This is an excellent choice when you are using a self-care product with sun exposure. Use a small dab on your palms and rub them into your skin, starting in the corner of your mouth and moving outwards towards your shoulders. Avoid applying the oils directly to your face as they can be a bit strong and cause burning if you are not used to them. However, massaging into the skin will increase the penetration of the oil into the skin.

Lavender Essential Oil - Lavender essential oils like this one are great to have in your home. Add a few drops to your bath water before bathing and use as a washcloth to refresh yourself after a shower or bath. A diffuser blend of these flowers can also be nice for freshening up in the kitchen or bathroom. The fragrances in the blend make the Lavender oils very aromatic and pleasing to the senses.
