Natural Oils For Post Nasal Drip

Finding an effective treatment to relieve post nasal drip depends a lot on what's causing the excess mucus. Antihistamines and decongestant sprays can help when your drip is allergy-related or viral. However, if you're seeking an all-natural method to treat post nasal drip, essential oils may be a better alternative. The following oils have been tested and proven to provide relief from post nasal drip symptoms. Some of these oils are also available in drug stores and can be purchased over-the-counter. Find out which essential oils should be used to treat your post nasal drip problem.

Lavender Essential Oil - this essential oil diffuser has a very pleasant and calming smell. It is great for sore throat and it is often recommended for those who get allergies or sinus problems. To use the diffuser, simply drop one or two drops into your nose, and then blow gently into the center of your face as you breathe through the head of your diffuser.

Peppermint Essential Oil - it is considered a stimulant and cooling oil. It relieves congestion and it is excellent for colds, coughs and sore throats. You can make a peppermint tea by boiling equal amounts of fresh peppermint leaves and mint leaves together, then allowing the mixture to cool while it's still hot. Drinking a bit of this hot peppermint tea will provide soothing relief for colds and coughs, plus it can help you fight nasty bacteria that causes sinus problems. Essential oils made from peppermint oil can be found at health food stores and many online retailers.

Rosemary Essential Oil - this essential oil is very common and widely available. It is thought to have antibacterial, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. If you add it to a warm bath it will provide instant relief from headaches, toothaches, muscle pain, and other ailments of the body. To use rosemary oil in a bath, boil three tablespoons in half cup of warm water and then add it to another cup of boiling water, swirl to mix well, and then inhale the steam inhalation. This is known as steam bath and it can provide up to temporary relief of pain, tension, and other body aches and pains.

Lavender Essential Oils - the use of lavender is widespread. It is usually found in shampoos, soaps, lotions, and candles. It is often used as a natural ingredient in aromatherapy products because of its pleasant, fragrance-free odor. Using essential oils with carrier oils like lavender gives an even more intense aroma to the bathwater, which is perfect for those who suffer from allergies or asthma.

Eucalyptus Essential Oils - is one of the best known of the essential oils for post nasal drip relief. This tree has been used for medicinal purposes in Australia and now is grown throughout much of the world. It is primarily used as an herbal remedy, but is also used in soap and shampoos, as well as being an ingredient of aromatherapy products. When added to bathwater, it creates a warm soothing feeling that increases the effectiveness of the anti-histamine used to treat allergies and colds. Eucalyptus oil is also commonly found in inhalers and in cough and cold remedies. Eucalyptus oil is considered safe when used as directed, and can be used to treat a wide variety of ailments including sore throats, headaches, colds, influenza, varicose veins, toe fungus, and other infection.

Lavender Essential Oils - is very good at treating colds and flu symptoms. However, if you suffer from post nasal drip because your sinuses are dry or cracked, then lavender is not the solution you were looking for. In fact, it will make the problem worse. Lavender is a powerful antiseptic which can soothe the irritation caused by dried up sinuses and cracked sinuses, thus reducing the amount of mucus produced and therefore the amount of drip.

Peppermint Essential Oils - this herb is often used in natural treatments for sinus infection and its relief from post nasal drip. Peppermint is considered an effective decongestant, which is able to reduce inflammation of the lining of the nose and throat. It also contains Menthol, a cooling substance which helps to relieve the dryness and irritation caused by mucus secretions, speeding up the healing process.
