Essential Oils For Multiple Sclerosis - A Guide To Effective Treatments

One of the best natural remedies for multiple sclerosis is essential oils. These are extracts of plants that contain certain fatty acids and several other compounds that have beneficial effects on the nervous system. Although there have been limited studies concerning the therapeutic effect of essential oils for multiple sclerosis sufferers, some have shown that they have a beneficial effect in the treatment of this condition. Here is what you can expect from essential oils for this condition:

Multiple sclerosis is an inflammatory disease that affects the central nervous system. It results from the inflammation of the myelin in the brain and spinal cord. Multiple sclerosis is often described as a syndrome that involves various symptoms such as loss of coordination, extreme fatigue, stiffness of the muscles and a decreased ability to experience pain. Scientists have not yet completely defined multiple sclerosis but the disease has been associated with various pathological processes, such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, rheumatoid arthritis, aneurysm and other diseases. The deterioration of the body's immune system plays a major role in causing multiple sclerosis.

Two main theories about the cause of multiple sclerosis have been proposed so far. According to one theory, it is a result of the genetic material of people living in certain areas being different from those who live in other places. The other theory suggests that the disease results from the inappropriate activity of the immune system. A good example of the second theory is the work of Dr. Michael Perlis, a famous neurosurgeon. He maintained that there is no relationship between asthma and multiple sclerosis and that the symptoms exhibited by multiple sclerosis patients do not resemble those of asthma.

The therapeutic effect of essential oils for multiple sclerosis can be used both externally and internally. Several essential oils are very effective in relieving the symptoms of multiple sclerosis. Some of these include peppermint, geranium, tea tree, lavender, chamomile, nerol, cedarwood and many more. These essential oils are used for their therapeutic properties as well as for aromatherapy.

To use the essential oils for multiple sclerosis treatment, a small amount of the oil is put on a soft cloth. A patient then feels the oil on the skin of his hands or feet. This procedure is called patch testing. A patch is applied on the skin for several days to identify any allergic reaction and then the oil is massaged gently in the same area.

Lavender oil has numerous medical benefits. It has anti-inflammatory properties which make it a suitable treatment for skin problems like eczema and inflammation of the joints. In fact, it can also relieve pain caused by joint injuries. Essential oils of lavender oil act as a great anti-infective and anti-fungal agent which helps in healing of skin infections, cuts and bruises.

The two other essential oils for treating multiple sclerosis are tea tree and hops extract. These two oils can be beneficial for relieving the pain from the nerve damage caused by the inflammation and other related medical conditions. Essential oils of these two oils help in reducing the fluid levels in the body. They also reduce the mucus secretions, which prevent the air passages in the lungs from becoming blocked.

The therapeutic value of the essential oils for treating multiple sclerosis is not only limited to the relief of symptoms. They also have positive effect on the overall health of the person. They improve digestion and metabolism, clear the digestive system, enhance sleep and relaxation, balance moods and bring about a general sense of well being. These properties make them very useful in various other medical conditions including headaches, insomnia, depression, sciatica and many more.
