If you're looking for the perfect essential oils for hair, try out some of popular DIYs which will help keep your luxuriant locks in great condition all year long. This DIY has been created by hair styling expert, Jennifer Richardson. It uses orange essential oil along with a few other natural ingredients to create a unique and effective deep conditioning treatment. This DIY allows you to utilize soft, moisturizing essential oils as well as lightly to detangle your troublesome, dry scalp.
To make this DIY, simply mix together three to four drops of each of the following oils: orange, lemon and lavender. Then mix together one tablespoon of olive oil and coconut oil into a bowl. Add the other ingredients to this mixture and gently mix them together. Use a rubber spatula to completely coat the entire head with this mix, then rinse out after one minute.
To create a very effective mask, simply combine one teaspoon of each of the following ingredients: lime juice, sandalwood, rosemary, ginger, cloves and cinnamon. Use a cotton ball to apply the mix to the scalp, massaging it gently into the scalp and massaging the mask into the hair roots. Next, shake the bottle until the essential oil mixture is thoroughly mixed into the scalp and strands. If possible, substitute this scent with a more powerful one, such as peppermint or rosewater. This mask will also prevent the hair from drying out, as it will provide a cooling effect.
For a more intense hydrating treatment, one could try using a combination of equal parts coconut oil and rosewater. Mix one tablespoon of each into two separate jars, then add two tablespoons of lime juice into the first jar. Next, add a few drops of peppermint essential oil, then shake to mix. Finish off the treatment by lightly brushing the scalp with the other half of the jar of coconut oil, which could act as an additional moisturizer for the hair after the aforementioned regimens have been applied. This treatment should be applied once per week, and it will provide a noticeable difference in the amount of moisture retained in the hair.
A helpful tip when using this DIY for the first time would be to let sit on the hair for an entire day prior to washing, and then wash the same day. This allows the oils in the carrier oil to work properly, as well as allowing the body to get a break from the rigors of washing and drying. For maximum results, let sit on the hair until morning, then wash only in the evening. One could also mix equal parts of the lemon juice and orange essential oil, which can then be added to a shampoo.
If the above treatments are too drying for one's tastes, one could consider adding a little rosemary essential oil to the shampoo. The benefits of this are similar to the ones of the previous two, but with a little added healing. To add the geranium essential oil, mix a couple of drops with the shampoo before washing the hair. It is also possible to add one drop to one's bath water before bathing, but it should be noted that one drop is not enough to give a complete head massage.
The last of the healing essential oils on the list is lavender. Lavender is popular with many because of its fragrant and floral scent, but one could also consider using the infusion method as well. By infusing a drop or two of the lavender essential oil into the scalp, one could get the desired result in terms of both smell and therapeutic benefits. While it would take more than one drop to achieve this, it is a cost effective method and is also less messy than most other methods.
