Using Essential Oils For Colds And Flu Relief
There are numerous essential oils and essential oil uses. Each have their own benefits and some have more therapeutic benefits than others. Some essential oils are considered medicinal, others are not. This article focuses on one of my favorites that is considered therapeutic in medicinal circles, however, it has a lot of therapeutic benefits for the mind/spirit as well. It's the oregano essential oil.
Oregano is the sweet smelling oil with a strong aroma. It is found in the Mediterranean region and parts of Africa. The most common use of this oil is to flavor food. I like oregano because of its antiseptic, antibacterial and anti fungal properties.
There are many essential oils that are antiseptics, antibacterial and anti fungal. I love oregano for all of those properties. One of the best essential oils for topical application is called eucalyptus. It comes in the form of drops, concentrated and in pill form. There are several brands of drops of essential oils for Colds and Flu treatments that include eucalyptus oil. Look for a brand that includes eucalyptus oil in both the bottle and the pump.
Cinnamon has many healing properties and is one of the best known essential oils for Cures. You will find many different brands of essential oils for Cures with different grades and strengths of cinnamon oil. I prefer to make a cold symptoms combination with eucalyptus oil. This combination is good for treating flu symptoms and muscle pain. If you want a stronger combination for cold symptoms, then use ginger, peppermint and/or cardamom for that.
Lavender is also another favorite essential oils for Cures. You'll often see this used in a dropsy or concentrated form. If you make your own drops, then you can use it for vapor rubs, tea tree oil pessaries, bath and body products and aromatherapy. When making your own drops of lavender oil, be sure to use organic pure lavender oil. Be aware that some manufacturers may use synthetic fragrances in their essential oils for Cures and Treats, so do some research on the company before buying their products.
Frankincense is another wonderful essential oil for colds and flu relief and one of my favorites. It's not readily available in retail stores, so you might have to order it online. The best way to get this is to buy wholesale bulk Frankincense from a supplier that offers an excellent selection and good prices. Most suppliers will offer free shipping when you purchase large quantities.
For chronic fatigue syndrome sufferers, there are many essential oils for Cures and Treats that can help you. These include geranium, eucalyptus, jasmine, rosemary, myrtle, rose, and sandalwood. Many of these essential oils can be used as part of a cold and flu remedy package or used just on their own.
When using essential oils for colds and flu relief, be sure to follow the direction on the bottle. For example, clove bud essential oils should not be applied directly to the skin. If you're using a drop or two, then dab the oil over your skin. Don't use more than about a drop at a time and don't apply it more than five minutes at a time. The clove bud essential oils will need to breathe in order to work. Be sure to keep them away from direct sunlight and use them only in a well ventilated area.
Some people prefer to use four drops of clove bud, two drops of eucalyptus, and two drops of rosemary essential oils in a spray bottle with a small drop of carrier oil. This can be put into a travel humidifier and taken along on a long road trip or vacation. You'll want to have a bottle of this in your car during the winter when you may be driving for long periods of time. It will also work great as a bathroom freshener when mixing your own essential oils in the bath.
For athletes and busy people, many find it best to use essential oils for colds and flu treatment that are in liquid form rather than a cream or gel. Because of the way some of these oils work, they need to be applied by spraying the bottle like a candle. This helps them penetrate deep into the skin and work faster. Aromatherapy works well for athletes and busy people because it is easy to carry and use, especially when using the different carrier oils mentioned above.
Many people believe that using essential oils for colds and flu symptoms is a fun way to relieve stress. They feel that their body is being cleansed and moisturized at the same time. This can work for many people, however it is important to make sure you take the time to try each oil and decide which is best for your individual needs. If you do your research, you'll be able to find a variety of choices that will provide you with relief without causing any health problems or discomfort.
